New manga2ebook version

Due to a computer mishap, I lost the most recent version of manga2ebook, I’ve reprogrammed it from an older version and added a few enhancements too.

Now available here:

Manga2Ebook2

changelog:

  • added batch-feature
  • contrast/normalize image setting (higher contrast)
  • custom filefilters
  • settings are saved upon exit
  • resize option “no aspect ratio” added (it will resize the image based on width AND height: maximum usage of the screen)

Personally I’d hope that one day, some new eink reader will be out which is so powerfull that such a program as this one is not needed anymore. But until then, this program will continue to be available for free.

There isn’t much to change on it though, it works for me, but there’s lack off feedback so I don’t know what other users want.

    Excuse me bad english.

Your program is fantastic but there are a problem.
This new version requires the DWMAPI.DLL (also EFSADU.DLL) which does not physically exist on XP machines.
You can recompile the project to work in XP or provide the source code?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

    I keep getting this error:

    —-Image Processing END——
    Generating inf.pdf
ERROR:Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed.
PDF generation complete. PDF created at \\.PSF\.Home\Documents\Comics\Marvel Comics - Infinity Sagas (Guantlet, War, Crusade, Abyss & The End) - Complete2 - The Infinity Gauntlet\destination\inf.pdf

    Any idea what this means??

“there’s lack off feedback so I don’t know what other users want.”

A version that works for GNU/Linux. Or at least some source code or details on what progs/options you use from the Imagemagick suite. With that I could make a script.

LOVE the program, but I’m having an issue with it.

I select my folder, say….”Cable and Deadpool” and there’s about 50 comics in there. The program makes one big pdf for ALL the files, which locks up the reader.

Can you somehow make it not do one pdf? Can it do one pdf per file?

Pollution, You might want to run your PDF through rasterfarian to make it ready for the reader. It’d give you much smaller size (about 1/10th) and much better quality too

you can find rasterfarian here: http://hightech.afmag.net/using-rasterfarian-for-manga-on-the-sony-reader-a-howto.html

Unfortunately, your second version has the following issues:
    a) It doesn’t create multiple pdf (once per directory and CBR)
    b) it doesn’t let me choose to create a pdf without any change to the pictures (just collect them to one pdf and rename the pdf to the foldername)
    c) It doesn’t clear the resized and processed images
    d) It doubles the number of pictures to process (I have two *.CBR with a total of 60 pictures - 9 and 51. Your program shows ‘converting 1 of 120′ but stops at 60 of 120 .-)
    e) We can’t find any information about the batch-features (any readme?)
    f) We are missing some naming-possibility, like %dirname%, %date%, %numberOfPictures% etc

Would be cool to hear some comments about this points…
    BTW: Gooood idea!!

Playing around with this program before I get my sony prs-505. Most people suggest using rasterfarian after creating your pdf. Is there anything I should uncheck in this program if I’m going to use Rasterfarian afterwards? I mean, wouldn’t it be bad to do some image processing and then have Rasterfarian process the image again?

Peter Mueller, thanks for the comments (although I don’t really think those are issues, more like feature requests)

Let me answer them for you:
    a) It doesn’t create multiple pdf (once per directory and CBR)
That’s not what the program was intended to do. It was made to create a library/volume PDF which consists of multiple chapters. If you want to have a pdf per cbr, then you’d need to put the cbr in a seperate directory.

    b) it doesn’t let me choose to create a pdf without any change to the pictures.
This is intentional, because the pictures have to fit in each page.

    c) It doesn’t clear the resized and processed images
This is also intentional after the release of the revised version. Because often, I want to continue a series. If I get my hands on a new chapter, I only needs to process that chapter and still create a complete pdf, starting from chapter 1 (which are saved in the processed folder)

    d) It doubles the number of pictures to process
That’s a bug that should be fixed in the new version

    e) We can’t find any information about the batch-features
I’ll include some info in the next release, but basicly you just add a directory to the batch and then start when you’re done adding.

    f) We are missing some naming-possibility, like %dirname%, %date%, %numberOfPictures% etc

Is that really needed? I might add an option for that.

    DasFool

Even when you’re going to use rasterfarian (or another rasterizer), you should just use the full option set of manga2ebook. It cleans and prepare the image for rasterfarian by removing noise, enhancing sharpness, extra contrast, etc. But most importantly, with manga2ebook, you have better control on the cropping and removal of white borders (rasterfarian would be too aggresive and will always align the image to the left)

When using rasterfarian, you can save a lot on the rasterfarian-options then. All default options are good.

I’m going to release a new version of manga2ebook AND rasterfarian soon, so come back next week :)
